Autistic children. Care of child mental health with a child psychologist using a psychotherapy session

“THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY TO HELP FAMILIES NAVIGATE THEIR CHILD’S NEEDS IN ALL ENVIRONMENTS.”

Through working with families and talking with other professionals, we began to see a pattern: A parent is given a diagnosis for their child and asks “now what?” Parents and guardians of special needs children can feel isolated, as they walk through several unknowns. Unknowns such as, having to educate themselves on a diagnosis they may not know about, navigating unfamiliar behaviors, wondering what the future looks like for their child and family, the list goes on. We hear stories of special needs families not attending community functions to avoid undesirable behaviors or stares from others. We see parents and guardians running all around town taking their child to multiple therapy locations several times a week, trying to navigate and meet the needs of everyone in the family. Watching as parents, guardians, and family members gave all they had to meet the needs of their children with so little support from the community, broke our hearts and challenged us. We thought, “There has to be a better way to help families navigate their child’s needs in all environments.” We began actively speaking with special needs families and other professionals about needs and next steps, which led to the creation of Therapy Junction, Inc.
