Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy that involves many techniques for understanding and adapting behaviors to help children learn skills and reduce undesirable behaviors impacting them and others. ABA is a flexible treatment that is molded and individualized for each unique person. Therapy can be provided in the home, school and/or community to teach skills that are beneficial in everyday life. ABA therapy’s focus is working on improving socially significant behaviors. Socially significant behaviors are behaviors that have impact in social situations and environments, oftentimes involving more than one individual. Undesirable and/or unsafe behaviors, such as eloping, hitting, kicking, screaming, etc., can be targeted in ABA therapy. The team working with your child will find all undesirable and/or unsafe behaviors that are socially significant and aid in providing replacement behaviors that keep your child safe and positively engaging in their everyday environments.
